More Information

The NoBark 18 uses a patented sensor system to provide the most reliable bark detection available. The unit delivers a static correction via the Contact Points only if it detects BOTH vibration from the vocal cords AND the sound of the bark. External noise or another dog¡s bark will not trigger a correction. The NoBark 18 provides six levels of correction in each of the Low, Medium, and High modes, for a total of 18 levels. In each mode, the correction starts at the lowest level and progresses to the next level (to a maximum of six levels) each time your dog barks within 30 seconds of the previous bark. If your dog does not bark again within 30 seconds, the correction will be reset to the lowest level in that mode. As a built-in safety feature, if your dog barks 15 or more times in 50 seconds, the unit will automatically shut off for three minutes.

Sportdog Nobark 18
I recently purchased a Sportdog fence system and was so impressed with it that I decided to try the Sportdog Nobark 18 collars as well on my 6 month old lab pups. I must say that I am very disappointed in this product. Not only does it not work well, these collars do not work at all! Both of my lab pups are oblivious to the no-bark collars.I have tested both collars and the battery appears to be o.k. To be sure, I replaced both with new batteries and still have very unsatisfactory results. I will be returning these to the store where I purchased them.

SPORTDOG RESPONSE: Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your collar. We do have a one year warranty on this product and we would be more than happy to help get you fixed up. The issue may be as simple as changing the setting (the collar offers multiple levels of correction). The collar is sold set to the lowest stimulation level. The reason for this is that we want you to work up to the proper level for your dog. You can work up the stimulation levels to find the correct level for your dog. We are going to email you now. Hopefully we can get your straightened up.

Let down by bad design
Having happily used the Sportdogs sporthunter 1825 training collar for field training I was quick to choose the nobark 18 from Sportdog against the competition.

I like the fact that the correction levels increase steadily and then reset. this is a feature that makes it stand head & shoulders above the rest.

Additionally the auto shut off is a feature rarely found on competitors models and whilst it does not fit my exact particular requirements its better than having no shut off feature at all.

As with my Sportdog Sporthunter 1825 it feels like a sturdy bombproof little unit and should last well. The rubberized coating on Sportdogs items save many of the scrapes scratches etc.

However this Sportdog Nobark 18 scores so badly in my opinion is that the level selection is a raised dial on the outside face of the unit!

I have a female dog who does not need a high level of correction so place the dial in the low selection position. this will correct from levels 1 - 6 only.

But no! this dial as mentioned before is on the outside of the unit so any rolling over, brushing up against fence, floor, scratching, pretty much anything a dog can do apart from sit in one position has the potential to unwittingly increase the level. On a number of occasions I returned to find this on level III correcting from levels 13 - 18 on a dog that needs no more than low level corrections.

On the last occasion she had moved it to level III she was distressed so it will never be used again.

SPORTDOG RESPONSE: We're sorry to hear you did not enjoy the system. The SBC-18 is set up not to easily change with user intervention, but it could be possible if a dog was hard enough on it to switch the mode possibly. The SBC-18 actually has 18 levels of corrections though. The SBC-6 only offers 6 as our most basic and easiest to use system. If you would like more correction options, you may look into the SBC-10R. It's our rechargeable collar and does not involve a dial for changing modes.

Quite why someone designed the nobark 18 this way, and quite why Sportdog have not changed this is beyond me. Again I was a happy Sportdog customer & continue to use the Sporthunter 1825 but the nobark 18 in its current configuration is very badly designed.
